SkillBridge @SBCC

SBCC aims to bridge the gap between commercial technology development and national security requirements via both traditional and non-traditional partnerships. In coordination with SkillBridge, our objective is to support defense members in their transition from military service into the commercial space, aiding in their understanding and mastery of business relationships as we promote civil military fusion.

All positions are offered 100% remote, so you can finish your 180 days where you’re needed most. The program is structured for you to maintain your military pay and benefits while working with us, so there’s no gaps in coverage while you test out a new field. Think of SkillBridge like an internship where you get the field experience and networking opportunities to launch your civilian profession before officially leaving active duty.

“Making the decision to separate from Active Duty was scary, but SkillBridge @SBCC has been a great partner in my transition. I am using skills I worked hard to acquire while on Active Duty to continue to serve, while learning new skills in areas that I did not have access to during my military career.

Being part of SBCC has also allowed me to work with a team of talented individuals that understand service and are deeply committed to helping our warfighters. I did not think that I’d find the same level of camaraderie in the private sector as I did in my military family, but I have definitely found that at SBCC!”

— Megan VanHorn

“The hardest part about transitioning from the military is asking yourself “What’s next.” With so many options, the choice can be overwhelming.

Spending my Skillbridge time at SBCC, I was able to seamlessly shift from my 20-year military career into a new career in the private sector. I was given the chance to showcase my previous skills, while also seeking out ways to build new ones. It was well worth it”

 SkillBridge FAQs

  • The DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge is the vehicle that connects service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences, such as those we offer at SBCC.

We are a fully remote company with teammates across multiple time zones, which means you can participate in our company from any location that provides a strong internet connection.

  • The program provides a symbiotic training and work experience for all parties. Participating service members continue to receive their military compensation and benefits at no cost to the employer. Job training provides practical application of real world skills, with opportunities to transition into full employment or connect with partner companies.

Don’t forget, we’re a fully remote company, so you can work from home or wherever you are currently stationed as long as you have a strong internet connection.

  • Service members must be able to complete the program within their last 180 days of military service, and it is strongly recommended that Service members complete as much of their Service's transition program as possible prior to starting a SkillBridge program to ensure that they are well informed of all of their post-Service options prior to entering this program. Approval authority rests with the first field grade commander in the Service member's chain of command. Such commanders may approve or disapprove participation by a Service member based upon unit mission requirements.

  • Yes. However, each Service may implement its own rules and guidelines regarding eligibility of Active Duty Guard (including Title 32) and Reserve members. Guard and Reserve members should contact their local Education and/or Transition Office for more information.

  • Yes, the assigned unit/command retains responsibility of the Service Member while they participate in a SkillBridge program. In some instances, Service SkillBridge Program Managers may be able to assist units/commands in monitoring Service Members. However, Service Program Managers cannot replace or assume the administrative, ethical, or legal responsibilities of the Service member's commander.

  • SkillBridge Programs provide eligible Service members with job training and career development opportunities to acquire employment skills, knowledge, and/or abilities to assist Service members with job opportunities in the civilian sector. SkillBridge industry partners' training programs must offer a high probability of post-service employment with the provider or other employers in a field related to the opportunity, but participants are not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the SkillBridge opportunity with that specific industry partner or employer simply by virtue of completing the SkillBridge Program.
