Colonel Richard S. Ward was the Commander, 502d Contracting Squadron,Joint Base San Antonio which includes JBSA-Randolph, JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland, and JBSA-Camp Bullis.  His unit provided base contracting support to the 502d Air Base Wing and 266 external customers executing over 3,600 actions totaling $1.1B to fulfil mission requirements.

Colonel Ward enlisted in the Air Force Reserve in 1988 as a jet engine mechanic. He attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting and received his commission in 1993 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of West Florida and a Defense-Focused Master of Business Administration in Program Management Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Ward was the Director of Contracting, Air Force Installation Contracting Center, Operating Location – AETC.
