Bill Spangenthal

Major General (retired), United States Air Force
Bill Spangenthal is 29-year Air Force veteran who retired as a Major General while serving as the Deputy Commander, Air Education and Training Command. In this position, he spearheaded the AF’s second largest command responsible for the recruiting, training, and education of all Air Force and Space Force personnel. He was also responsible for the world’s largest training organization (initial skills, undergraduate flying, and combat crew training) and executed the planning and programming of a $7.6 billion annual budget.
As a mobility aviator, Bill commanded at the squadron, expeditionary group and wing levels. Additionally, his experience includes various strategy, operations, and warfighting requirements positions within Air Education and Training Command, Air Mobility Command, U.S Central Command and the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. He is a command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours in various mobility aircraft and numerous combat theaters.
Bill graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor’s of Science in Operations Research. He also has a Master’s degree in Organization Management from The George Washington University and a Master’s degree in Airpower Art and Science from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies.
