Shreveport, LA – In May 2024, Small Business Consulting Corporation (SBCC) stood up the University Partnership Program (UPP) in Northern Louisiana. SBCC has teamed up with Air Force Global Strike Command’s (AFGSC) Commercial Capabilities Integration & Transition (CCIT) Division to create this opportunity for under-grad and graduate students to get real-world experience while helping keep America more secure.

The purpose of launching the UPP is to enhance the Civil/Military cooperation and help cultivate and keep local talent – in turn contribute to the economic growth to the local community. The program aims to mentor and develop future leaders and provide future opportunities to join the SBCC team or the Air Force civil service cadre.

The UPP offers students a year-round, part-time employment – not just a summer internship! The program also gives flexible work hours, mentorship and elite training, work with local and regional Defense Contractor companies, and helps attain a security clearance and post graduate employment opportunities. “The benefit of hiring students is that it brings fresh, untainted and outside of the box innovative ideas and resolutions to solve military data analysis and decision-making issues.” says Kavooss Shamloo – Director, Data Engineering & Analytics at SBCC. “The program is designed to provide the students with real-world problems to solve, give them a real-work experience, and prepare them for their futures in this highly competitive fast-paced field.”

The first 10 UPP students met with SBCC’s Gerald Goodfellow (CEO), Tom Wilcox (COO), Kavooss Shamloo (Director, DE&I), and Alicia Snellgrove (UPP Project Manager).

This is a new endeavor for SBCC, which means bringing on new people to help facilitate. Alicea Snellgrove – UPP Program Manager is ready to bring the vision to life! “I am most excited to experience the growth of SBCC! Our company is known on local university campuses as a company that provides meaningful work to its employees. As the UPP Program Manager, it has been very rewarding watching the UPP start as an idea and mature into its purpose. "

SBCC is currently partnered with Louisiana Tech and Grambling University and has direct-hired 10 students to the program, but Kavooss says the goal is to continue to grow the UPP across the country. “As we expand our reach and services to other Commands and regions, we would like to expand UPP with respective local universities to tap into their pool of talent in Data Science, Software Engineering and AI/ML to build a stronger and more advanced Data Analysis and Collaboration Cells.”
